MSN Messenger Remote Assistance Group

On some XP systems an error comes up when trying to use various advanced features on MSN Messenger—such as sending a remote assistance request, starting a whiteboard session, etc.

For instance, when trying to send a remote assistance request this error will come up:

“Your invitation was not sent because you need the latest version of Windows Messenger to use the Remote Assistance feature. Please go to the Windows Messenger update site to install the latest version”

Apparently the reason for this error is that even though you appear to be using MSN Messenger, these services are driven by Windows Messenger in the back ground. At the time of writing this, the latest version of Windows Messenger is 5.1

This is a component of Windows that is installed in most default installations. If, however, it does not get installed, or the installation is corrupted, or it is uninstalled by mistake, or is simply out of date for the feature you wish to use, the you will need to reinstall it.
